Famously known as the Whiskey Route to distinguish it from the Marangu route (which is known as the Coca Cola Trail), the Machame Route takes in some of the finest parts of the mountain, including the beautiful Shira Plateau, the Barranco wall and the majestic Lava tower. Surprisingly statistics show that the Machame Route offers a higher chance of reaching the summit too.
A long but yet gentle trail that offers both exceptional chances of seeing wildlife and a higher chance of reaching the summit as it gives trekkers enough time to acclimatize. The Northern circuit gives trekkers a real feeling of being in the wilderness since it is the most isolated route, it also gives them a chance to get away from large crowds of people while allowing trekkers a chance to see more of the mountain than any other route.
The Lemosho route; A long but yet gentle trail that offers both exceptional chances of seeing wildlife and a higher chance of reaching the summit as it gives trekkers enough time to acclimatize. The route joins Machame route on day 4 for those doing a 8- days plan and day 3 for those doing a 7 days plan.
The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the North and descends via the Marangu route. Rongai is an ideal route for trekkers looking for a less crowded trail even though it is now gaining popularity. The slope of Rongai is much less than the mountain’s other routes thus the best choice for less experienced trekkers and the best alternative route to the popular Marangu route.
The Marangu route, named after The Marangu village, a chagga village at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. This route is also known as the 'Coca-Cola' route, getting its nickname from its gradual slope and direct path. Marangu route is the oldest and most well established route on Kilimanjaro. It is the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodation which makes it unique.
The Umbwe route is believed to be the most physically challenging route amongst the routes of Mount Kilimanjaro. This is a well deserved reputation given its steep and direct path which denies trekkers a staged climb for good acclimatization before attempting to summit. Statistics show that the rate of success for trekkers who approach the mountain from this route is very low.
Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania with 4562 meters amsl. Located North of Arusha town, the mountain is found in Arusha National Park situated about 70 km west of its cousin Mount Kilimanjaro.
